The Award for Predicting Unexpected Oscar® Moments Goes to...

LAS VEGAS, Nev., Feb. 28, 2011 -- While film critics, movie buffs and psychics have been touting the accuracy of their Oscar® predictions, the award for predicting the unexpected at the 83rd Academy Awards® goes to Alain Nu.

The international man of mystery successfully predicted not only which films would receive Oscars®, but also what nobody would have predicted: James Franco in drag and Melissa Leo's F-bomb.

Billed as The Man Who Knows, Nu is the author of "Picture Your ESP!" and star of the TLC Network TV specials "The Mysterious World of Alain Nu." In addition to performing on the Vegas Strip, Nu has entertained audiences worldwide with his uncanny demonstrations that blur the line between science and the mysteries of unexplained phenomena.

At a Jan. 25 press conference at the Palms Casino Resort, Nu had presented his Academy Awards® predictions in a wrapped, sealed and tamper-proof package for Oscar Night® America Las Vegas, the official Vegas viewing party.

Since then his package of predictions had been locked away in the vault of the Nevada Federal Credit Union -- until this week when it was opened on live television on "The Morning Blend" on ABC affiliate KNTV-TV Channel 13.

How accurate were his predictions?
  • "The Social Network loses Best Picture to The King's Speech." -- Correct!
  • "The King's Speech wins three big Oscars®."  -- Technically true, but the film went home with four Oscars®.
  • "Colin Firth: Best Actor." -- Correct!
  •  "Best Screenplay: The Kings Speech." -- Correct!
  • "The Fighter will win two Oscars." -- Correct!
  • "The Black Swan wins with Natalie." -- Correct!
  • "Toy Story III wins Best Animation." -- Correct!
  • "The Kids Are Alright, Harry Potter, The American, and True Grit though nominated, will be disappointed." -- 75% Correct (The American was not nominated.)
  • "Alice in Wonderland wins three and ties with The Kings Speech." -- Incorrect. (Alice in Wonderland received two Oscars®, and four Oscars® went to The Kings Speech. The Kings Speech did however tie with Inception -- both winning four Oscars®.)
  • "Inception will win four total awards..." -- Correct!
  • "... including Best Special Effects." -- True, although the award category was "Visual Effects."
"People and events are strangely connected by a mysterious energy," said Nu. "Each of us has a super hidden potential which allows us to tap into this energy and even to forecast the future."

But what were his predictions as accurate for those unexpected Oscar® moments?

"A man will dance in a dress or bright outfit" -- Mostly Correct: James Franco appeared wearing a pink dress — but didn't dance.

"There will be tears." -- Was Nu predicting tears after we saw James Franco in a dress?

"Someone will cuss out loud, then there will be laughter." -- Correct: Melissa Leo dropped the F-Bomb amidst raucous laughter!

Ironically, just hours before her acceptance speech, Melissa Leo had told "Entertainment Weekly," "“I did not write a speech. I hope I don’t regret that later on.”

"It just goes to show that what you know may be more than what you think!" said Nu.

Officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Oscar Night® America Las Vegas benefited Variety, The Children’s Charity of Southern Nevada, which is dedicated to improving the quality of life for local children with special needs.  For the past 18 years, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has cooperated with local charities to support official Oscar Night® viewing parties throughout the country.

Nu's uncanny demonstrations defy explanation... Nu even pulled me up on stage
and had me draw on the head of a spoon and put my initials in it. He then
proceeded not only to bend the spoon in several directions but also
managed to twist it -- all with the power of his mind. Ultimately, it
all boils down to the fact that Nu truly is "The Man Who Knows."
